Gurugram: Cops seek cancellation of security company’s licence in Sohna Road heist

GURUGRAM: Police have sought the cancellation of the licence of a private security agency involved in cash collection, two days after a gang of robbers pulled off a daring heist on a van owned by the firm and fled with Rs 1 crore. Police have also recommended that the ADGP (law & order) blacklist the company.
Two employees of the firm were collecting cash on behalf of a private bank on Monday afternoon and had stopped their van on the busy Sohna Road to collect cash from a Maruti showroom when the robbers struck. They fled with bags of cash after brandishing a gun and throwing chilli powder on the employees some 200 metres from a police station.
Cops said the security agency, S&IB Private Ltd, was found to be violating the stipulated guidelines and protocols for collection and transportation. Police chief Kala Ramachandran has now directed all DCPs to check with the banks about cash collection companies operating in Gurugram and ensure that they follow all the protocols and mandated safety guidelines.
Representatives of S&IB couldn’t be reached for a comment. According to police, during the investigation they found grave lapses on the part of S&IB. DCP (east) Virender Vij said the Maruti Eeco van used to transport the cash did not comply with any of the specifications for design as per the norms. “There was no compartment with grills, no cash box, no wire mesh installed in the windows and the windscreen of the car, no CCTV camera and no alarm,” he said.
Police further pointed that the company also violated all the norms laid down regarding the deployment of personnel in the cash van — only three people were in the van as opposed to the stipulated minimum of five; no armed security guards were deployed and all three personnel had been recently employed and didn’t appear to be trained, as they kept the windows open and the cash lying in loose bags.
In view of the above, Vij has recommended cancellation of the licence issued by ADGP (law & order) valid from August 2019 to August 2024. Meanwhile, police have also announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the robbers.
