City reports 291 new cases, positivity at 8.1%

Gurgaon: The city reported 291 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, up from 285 cases on the previous day. The positivity rate is now 8.1%, a marginal rise from Friday’s 8%.
Active cases too rose from 1,165 the day before to 1,218 on Saturday. Hospitalisations continue to be very low — 12 Covid patients are hospitalised at present and the remaining 1,206 are in home isolation, according to the health department.
In the last 24 hours, 3,577 people have been tested for Covid by government and private labs. “We have already ramped up testing. We also recommended that the district administration add eight more micro-containment zones to the existing list,” Gurgaon chief medical officer Dr Virender Yadav said.
The city has five micro-containment zones at present — a flat on the second floor of M2K Aura (Sector 47), a flat in Tower 5 at Nirvana Country (Sector 50), a flat in Tower A of Citizen Apartments (Sector 51), a house in Ardee City and another house in Silver Oaks (DLF-1).
The health department said there has also been a rise in the number of people turning up for vaccination this week. “There are two reasons for the increase in number of people getting vaccinated — one is that new cases are spiking, so people don’t want to take the risk of infection and are getting vaccinated, and the second is that private healthcare institutions have started booster doses for the 18-plus category,” said Dr MP Singh, district immunisation officer.
Most patients have mild flu-like symptoms, headache and scratchy throat, doctors said. “Some are also reporting diarrhoea. Cases have seen a spurt, but fortunately we don’t have very sick patients. Most of them are recovering in three to four days. It is because our vaccination coverage is better this time and people are also getting booster doses. People should still stick to masks if they want to cut the transmission chain,” said Dr Arunesh Kumar, head of department and senior consultant (pulmonology) at Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon.
