Mechanic falls from sixth floor while installing AC, dies

Gurgaon: A 20-year-old service mechanic fell to his death while installing an AC unit from the ledge of a sixth floor flat of a society in Sector 82 on Thursday evening, the police said.
Aman, an employee of a private company, belonged to UP’s Bijnor. He was working at Mapsko Royale Ville around 6:30pm on Thursday when the incident took place.
Residents rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Images of the incident showed the ledge chipped from an edge and the external component of the AC hanging from the wires. “It is not clear if the service engineer lost his balance or if a part of the ledge came off,” a police officer said.
Rajinder Kumar, SHO at the Kherki Daula police station, said they have informed Aman’s family in Bijnor. “No FIR has been registered as of now. But we are investigating the matter,” the SHO added.
The society’s developer condoled the incident but said it took place because of an imbalance while the AC unit was being put up. “We are deeply sorry for the death of the worker and express condolences to the deceased’s family… the incident happened because of a disbalance of the AC unit while the worker was installing it. There is no damage to the ledge, which is intact. This is an unfortunate incident,” a statement by Mapsko said.
The society’s RWA said the matter was under investigation and the exact cause is yet to be determined. “We are not sure if he slipped by mistake or it was due to some other reason,” said Sudhir Pant, RWA president.
