Gurugram: Don’t call symptomatic staffers to work, offices told
GURUGRAM: Employees should avoid attending offices if any person shows Covid-like symptoms, the Gurugram health department said in an advisory on Tuesday, at a time when businesses across the city have returned to the work-from-office schedules.
Gurugram, like several NCR cities, has seen a spurt in daily infections for the past week. On Tuesday, the city added nearly 200 (198) new cases for the second consecutive day, and its active infections (868) touched levels not seen since late February.
“No symptomatic person should be allowed in offices. If an employee tests positive, ensure strict isolation of positive cases and conduct testing of close contacts or suspects,” said Dr Virender Yadav, Gurugram chief medical officer (CMO). In offices, staff should be stationed to ensure thermal scanning, physical distancing and wearing of masks by everyone, he added.
Office managements in the city told TOI they are ensuring adherance to protocols to stem any spread of the virus. Some said they are asking employees to take Covid tests before attending in-person meetings. “We have some team meetings in the coming days and keeping in view the rise in Covid cases, everyone who will be attending these meetings will have to get their Covid tests done. Office will bear the cost. We have thermal screening in place and wearing a face mask is mandatory,” said Manas Fuloria, CEO of Nagaro, an IT services and consulting firm that has an office in Sector 18. The company is working in a hybrid mode, with two days a week in office.
People who have to attend offices said the advisory was a “good move” by the city administration.
“At least now if we have flu-like symptoms, we can stay at home and others will not be infected,” said Ajay Kumar, a Sector 30 resident who works in an IT firm in the city.
Anita Kaul, a resident of South-City-1 who works in a bank, also said she feels more “comfortable” now that the mask mandate is back. She was referring to the Haryana government’s decision this week to make masks compulsory in NCR districts Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonepat and Jhajjar. “It is the only thing that works to curb the virus,” Kaul, who also goes to the bank two days a week, said.
On Tuesday, the department also included in its advisory suggestions for parents not to send children to schools if the minors show any flu-like symptoms.
“We urged parents to keep their children at home if they have flu symptoms. If a child tests positive, ensure that the child is isolated for seven days at home and testing of suspected close contacts should be carried out,” the CMO said.
Most schools, which opened at full capacity for the new academic session this month, said they have also recommended parents to monitor the health of the children before allowing them to attend physical classes.
