Vipul Lavanya residents seek DC’s help for piped water

Gurgaon: Paying through the nose for water from private tankers for their daily needs, residents of Vipul Lavanya have now urged Gurgaon’s deputy commissioner to intervene and ensure a proper water connection for the Sector 81 society. Around 500 families live in the society with no access to clean drinking water from the development authority.
Though the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has started supplying water in sectors 81 to 99 from August last year, Lavanya is yet to reap the benefit. The society submitted an application for water connection in July 2021 and junior engineers paid a visit and the required documents were submitted. But the connection was not given as the developer did not pay the mandatory charge of Rs 4 lakh.
“We have requested DC Nishant Yadav to instruct the developer to pay for the connection charge,” Amit Shekhar, vice president of Lavanya RWA, told TOI. “We are not getting the water connection as Vipul Limited, the builder, is refusing to pay the mandatory connection charge. We are dependent on tankers for our daily water needs.”
According to the rule book, it is the responsibility of the private developers to apply for the water connection in a housing society, but in many cases, they are unwilling to do so and want the RWAs to foot the bill. “It is the responsibility of the developer to apply and pay for the connection,” said a senior DTCP official.
When contacted, Pradeep Kumar, chief engineer of GMDA, said it takes around two weeks to provide the water connection after applications are submitted for approval. “The connection is provided after submission of all necessary documents and fees.”
However, a spokesperson for the developer, said that “we have already submitted the application for the water connection to the GMDA”.
