Janu murder case: 2 held in midnight shootout at Jagadhri within 48 hours
YAMUNANAGAR: Within 48 hours of the midnight shootout at Jagadhri town of Yamunanagar district, the special staff of police have arrested two accused persons, said Bilaspur deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ashish Chaudhary on Monday.
The police said the arrested accused have been identified as residents of Kurukshetra district, Harpal alias Neelu of Barauda and Nitesh alias Neetu of Umri, and both were present at the crime spot at the time of the shootout.
DSP Bilaspur said that both the accused were produced in the district court on Monday, which granted their four-day police remand.
Notably, Janu Valmiki of Yamunanagar had died in a midnight shootout on Saturday, while Mohit Sharma, Rajat Kaushal, and Anmol of Yamunanagar, had sustained bullet injuries.
On the complaint of Mohit, the police had booked three identified accused Sachin Pandit of Sudhail village, Manoj of Yamunanagar, and Sumit of Unheri village, under Sections of murder, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation of the IPC, Arms Act, and SC/ST Act at Sector 17, HUDA, Jagadhri police station on Saturday.
Both accused came on direction from Sachin Pandit
DSP Ashish said, “Accused Harpal does illegal liquor business and he is already under trial in three criminal cases registered against him. Harpal is a friend of accused Sachin Pandit and Sachin kept rivalry with deceased Janu. Sachin had fired at Janu in the past as well and a case is already registered in this regard at Yamunanagar City police station.”
DSP said that it was Sachin, who tasked and tipped Harpal that Janu would be coming to a marriage function at Vintage Grill Palace in Jagadhri.
“Harpal waited for Sachin at the spot (Palace) and meanwhile, Sachin called about 12 more men. They waited outside in a car for Janu to come out as Janu came out of the marriage function with his friends, accused people including Sainty, Sachin, Sumit Rana started indiscriminate firing at him”, said the DSP.
The DSP added that Janu got injured and accused Harpal and his accomplices then attacked him with a rod and sticks and fled the spot.
He said the names of arrested accused Harpal and Nitesh are not mentioned in the first information report (FIR) and their names came to the fore, during the police investigation.
“On the basis of the investigation, both the accused were apprehended and during the interrogation, they confessed to committing this murder and the remaining accused people would also be arrested very soon”, said DSP Ashish.
