Positivity 10% in city, Hry told to ramp up testing by 5k daily
Gurgaon: Daily Covid cases in the current surge touched another high in the city on Monday, when 397 people tested positive. This was the second successive day when cases breached the 300-mark.
Officials in the health department said they would increase the number of daily tests as the positivity rate touched 10% on Monday. The last time the city’s positivity rate was 10% or above was on February 5 (11.3%). So far this month, 12 patients have been admitted to hospitals.
Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan and Dr VK Paul of the Niti Aayog held a meeting with the Haryana chief secretary on the Covid situation in the state, which has been seeing a spike in numbers, with the bulk of cases being reported from Gurgaon. Eight containment zones have been added to the five micro-containment zones already notified.
At the meeting, the Haryana government was asked to ramp up daily testing by 5,000 and ensure containment measures were strictly implemented. At present, Haryana is conducting nearly 10,000 tests every day.
Apart from chief secretary Sanjeev Kaushal and additional chief secretary (health) Rajiv Arora, the chief secretaries of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and representatives of the respective health departments also participated in the virtual meeting with Bhushan and Paul. “We had a review meeting and will further ramp up testing in Haryana. I have already told all civil surgeons to increase testing. We have also set up micro-containment zones in Gurgaon,” Arora told TOI.
The city has been conducting more than 3,000 tests daily. It will soon carry out 2,000 more tests amid a rise in positivity and new cases.
